This review is for Contact Imminent and Engame, the fourth and fifth books in the "Chronicles of Jani Kilian." These books were not as suspenseful as the first three but still kept me reading to find out the fate of Jani, Lucien, John Shroud, Tsecha and the others whom we met previously. If you like the human-alien relations of C.J. Cherryh's Foreigner or Chanur books, this entire series is along that same vein. Make sure to read the books in order or risk being at a bit of a loss. ( ) Smith wraps up her tale of interspecies intrigue with a tense tale of assassination and repercussions. The death of a prominent figure in Jani Kilian's own camp requires her to step in to save her adopted community. The culture of the alien idomeni does allow duels, but even the opportunity to exercise violence won't get her out of having to used negotiation and political alliances; it just adds to the sources of trouble. Throughout the tale, Smith ably weaves plot threads of complex characters with complex relationships. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Onderdeel van de reeks(en)
Ever since contact was first made between humans and the alien idomeni, tensions between the two races have been frequent and bloody. As the first genetically altered human-idomeni hybrid, former Captain Jani Kilian serves as a lightning rod for the anger, outrage, and hatreds of both sides. And now the ex-soldier finds herself in the unwanted role of diplomat--serving the interests of her hybrid enclave, Thalassa, the only place in the universe that welcomes renegade humans, hybrids, and aliens alike. But the all-powerful Commonwealth intends to bring Thalassa to its knees, and the time for diplomacy is at an end. With death surrounding her, Jani Kilian must return to where her nightmare began and once again take on her most powerful persona: warrior. For as the game approaches its inevitable conclusion, she knows only two options remain: victory . . . or extermination. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
