Robert Principe thought it would be a one-time deal. When he graduated from law school, Rob believed his future was set. But the white-collar world isn't as easy as he thought, and with a struggling firm, a pregnant wife and a sister in trouble he needs money... fast. Desperate, he approaches his mobster cousin Jackie with an insurance scam, a chance for Robert to use his law degree to make a few quick bucks. The scheme works - too well. "Slip & Fall" should have been amazing due to the credential of the author or should it have been amazing?

Mr. Santora has the credentials it takes to make a great author of this genre he is a former lawyer, has written for outstanding television shows i.e "The Sopranos", "Prison Break" and "Breakout Kings", "Law and Order" and knows the streets of Brooklyn. Unfortunately that is not enough to write a great book.

Vince Flynn wrote a one sentence endorsement "Nick Santora's charachters will ensnare readers and pull them inot the good, bad, and ugly of Robert Principe's life-a gripping thriller" that was on the first page after the cover. I very much enjoy Vince Flynn and I am disappointed that he wrote such a glowing review.

The writing is pedantic at best, the protagonist is pathetic, the supporting characters are never fleshed out and there was nothing surprising about the story. A snore with unfinished plot lines, incomplete characters and the reliance on a television audience span of intelligence and attention.

Not for those that appreciate Baldacci, Tannenbaum and Bernhardt among many others far better than Mr. Santora.

Robert Principe is an attorney in New Jersey. Slip and Fall is a story about a person who, unfortunately, finds himself between the proverbial "rock and a hard place". As the pressure builds, so does the plot.

Read this one for fun. It reads like a TV show, not too surprising since Nick Santora has written for TV shows.

Not what I would consider great literature, but a good "beach read". ( )

So you finish a good law school (Columbia in this case) and don't feel like working for one of the big firms. So you go ahead and open your own company believing that you will have enough work - after all this is your old neighborhood, accidents happen every day and you will get most of the clients because these are your parents' friends anyway.

Or at least this is what Robert Principe was thinking when he started his carrier. The reality does not match exactly the expectations. So after a while he has his small company, he is independent but he is on the brink of a bankruptcy - not to mention all the non-paid bills and the mortgage that is slipping. Add to this a pregnant wife, a pregnant sister that need to move in with him and a future child that will need a lot of help - and Rob need to come up with a way to win money. Or better to say that he needs to make a decision - because an easy scheme had already been proposed to him.

The problem is that this way is essentially a cheating of the insurance companies... and the mafia is behind it.

This is Santora's first book and it shows. His credentials are in the TV series writing and you can see it in the book. It is fast-paced but in the way a series will be - you can almost visualize the breaks in the narrative and the distinct style that calls for a cliffhanger every few minutes so people don't change the channel doing the ads. It is a fast and nice read (and the end works... somewhat) but it relies on coincidences a bit too much - and in some cases they feel forced. But it is a good summer read and if I need a fast thriller which will not make me wonder what the author thinks, I would pick another of his books. Because Slip & Fall is a TV show on paper. ( )

Nick Santora's novel "Slip & Fall" is a fast pace thriller, that keeps you on the edge of your seat, as the pages keep turning as fast as you can read. The love of family, relatives & friends takes you on an breathtaking adventure through the life of Robert R. Principe, a graduate of Columbia Law School, to becoming a attorney and getting caught-up in the scam between lawyers, doctors, wizeguys, clients & insurance companies by faking injuries and filing false claims to collect money from insurance companies, what will he do? Slip & Fall had a far more dramatic end that I first envisioned from the beginning chapters. The story made me think of the fragile nature of one’s morals. Could I become corrupted when times got difficult? Could the best intentions be forgotten in a moment of intense personal pressure? Questions we often ask when we read about someone else but not something that we contemplate deeply. Well written and worth the time to read. ( )
