00011035 Summary: “Exploring the Titanic” tells the history of the Titanic’s sinking, being found, and exploration of the sunken ship. In 1985, seventy-three years after the Titanic sinks, the wreckage is discovered two and a half miles beneath the surface of the North Atlantic Ocean. In 1986, Robert Ballard and his team of explorers return to the dive by way of a tiny submarine, Alvin, to explore the wreck of the Titanic. By using a robatic camera, Jason Junior, they are able to see not only the outside of the ship, but some things inside the ship, including the Grand Staircase, staterooms, and the gymnasium. They also find some of the items that were scattered on the ocean floor, like a dolls head, a ten cup, and statuette of a Greek goddess. Personal reaction: The book shows diagrams of the ship, photos of the ship before and after the sinking, pictures of some of the items found on the bottom of the ocean, pictures of people that were on the ship, and maps of where the sunk ship is located. The captions tell about the illustrations, and the book includes a glossary. Classroom extension: 1. This book could be used in a lesson about social classes. Students could look up passenger lists and sort them into different social classes. 2. This book could be used in a lesson about great disasters in history. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
