The central lesson in High Hopes for Addy is that family will sacrifice their personal desires to support members of their family. Addy's family was supposed to move to a larger, expensive apartment but after hearing about Addy's acceptance to a prestigious teacher school, they decided to use their money instead to pay for her education. Her family knew that it was Addy's dream to attend this school and they made the financial sacrifice to support her and her education. ( ) Addy’s life is full of excitement with a kite contest and acceptance into the Institute for Colored Youth, but her dreams stop soaring when she finds out the cost of the school and sees how plane her homemade kite looks. It is her little sister, Esther, who finds the letter (by destructively going through Addy’s things as usual) so that her family tells her they’ll get the money so she can go. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
