I found this book very cute. One aspect of the book that I enjoyed in particular is how the illustrator shows what the little boy was feeling about his brother. For example, the narrator, whom is the brother says that Andy (the little brother) "would have a lot more hair if you were a dog and a lot more teeth. Then you could be a watchdog! You could guard the house when Mom and I go out." The picture in the book is Andy actually acting as a dog in front of the house behind a giant gate. Anther example is when he says Andy would be able to do tricks like a dog, the picture is Andy catching a frisbee over a lake with an alligator coming up for him. This is a good book to read to little kids between 6-9. ( )

"I Wish My Brother Was a Dog" is a humorous story about how some children feel about their siblings. A young boy describes all the reasons why he wish his little brother, Andy, was a dog. For example, Andy wouldn't touch his toys, and wouldn't have to go places with him and his mom. After naming several reasons why he would love his little brother to be a dog, he realizes if that were so he would miss Andy. This is a cute story explaining that siblings may sometimes be a pain, but without siblings we would be lonely. I think this is a cute book to share with children. They would all love the funny illustrations that go along with the story. Overall, I think this is an adorable book and I would love to share it with my children one day. ( )

A person who would relate to this book the most is someone with a sibling. At one time or another, we wish that our siblings would disappear or at least be something else. "I wish my brother was a dog" is the opening line of the book by Carol Shields. A big brother is severely upset by the antics of his much younger brother. The older brother described the many things he could do to his brother if he was a dog. The illustrations of the older brother are always quite menacing, this shows just how much truth he was holding in words, the younger brother is shown as being cheerful. At the end though, the older brother realizes that even if his brother turned into a dog, he would still treat him like a brother. This book is good to read to children with siblings or who will have a sibling in the near future. This book shows that no matter how we say we wish things to be, we are never truly happy when it becomes that way. ( )

This fictional story is wonderful for eldest siblings to read when they are frustrated with their younger siblings. In this story the main character wishes that his baby brother was a dog. He list all of the fun things that he would teach the "dog" and also the beneficials things that would come from his sibling being a dog instead of human. In the end, the oldest sibling realizes that he would in fact rather have a sibling than a dog. This would be a good story to read at home rather than a classroom. ( )

When his little brother is too annoying, the little boy wishes his baby brother was a dog. If he was a dog, his baby brother would not play with his toys anymore and annoy him. In the end he realizes that he loves his baby brother and having him around because if he was not there things just would not be the same.

I thought this book was really cute and funny. I would keep this in my classroom as pleasure reading because this book could be very relatable to students with younger siblings. ( )
