My mother used to own every Erma Bombeck out there. I used to read them once in a while though I didn't get why they were so funny. My mother used to howl while reading and laugh so hard she start to cry at times. This was available via Overdrive so I thought I borrow it.

Maybe it's just my generation or that fact that I don't have kids. I thought things here and there were humorous, but sadly nothing made me laugh out loud.

The illustrations were definitely interesting and pushed this book to a 3 star read for me.

You should be able to finish this book really quickly too. I think it only took me about 40 minutes from beginning to end to put this aside. ( )

Another fun book by Erma Bombeck in which she regails us with stories of motherhood. Is dated now but great look back on how things were and how some things never change. With illustrations done by Bill Keane of Family Circus comic fame. ( )

My mom introduced me to Erma Bombeck ages ago. Bombeck's books are timeless. I thank my mom for my love of reading. This book was filled with love & humor. I am not a mom but I know most mothers can probably read it & nod in agreement with most of the stories. I certainly chuckled from the memory of my teen years. ( )

The book was first published in 1970 and the text and the illustrations are showing their age. Let's face it, the kids who where teenagers in it are now in their mid to late 40s. Of course with the 2000s being into the 1970s retro look and sound, maybe what's old is new.

That's not to say it wasn't a quick and enjoyable read and Bil Keane's illustrations are humorous too. I recommend flipping through the book once just to enjoy his illustrations. Imagine the Family Circus kids as hippy teenagers. Actually come to think of it, the Family Circus kids probably are actually in their mid to late forties as well. ( )

To Thel Keane and Bill Bombeck, without whose cooperation with the authors, the teen-agers and consequently the book about them could not have been produced.
