The pacing of these comics is amazingly fast and the art really tells the story even better. It's easy to get submerged in the tales and see plot fly by. ( ) I didn't really get into this series. I think that might have been because I really didn't know any of the characters, or the characters were pretty different from what I remember. The art was good. The story was ok as it was pretty much just setting up two big powerful bad guys against each other with the rest of the galaxy just trying to not get squished. That seems to be a reoccuring theme so far in these series so far. Two bad guys fight while the heroes try to do something. Anyway, my takeaway from this series is getting to know the hero Nova. Never heard of him before I started this series, but seems pretty cool. The conclusion of Marvel's Annihilation saga. Was it worth it? You bet it was. The bulk of this collection is given over to the main Annihilation miniseries, written by Keith Giffen with art by Andrea DiVito, originally serialized between August 2006 and January 2007. It's the last days of the war, roughly seven months since the Annihilation Wave appeared, and as the story opens our heroes are not having an easy time of it. In fact, they've pretty much lost. This is the epic final battle where all the threads come together and it works. A fun, exciting sci-fi adventure. Also included in this volume are a series of stories about the Heralds of Galactus in the aftermath of the Annihilation War, originally published in February and April 2007. "Parasites", by Christos N. Gage with pencils by Giuseppe Camuncoli, is a decent story about the insufferable Terrax the Tamer. "Stardust: A Death of Hope" by Stuart Moore with art by Mike McKone is a pretty little love story. "Afterburn" by Keith Giffen with art by Scott Kolins is Firelord's tale; and "Brother's Keeper" has Silver Surfer taking names. Overall a better-than-expect bunch of stories about characters in whom I'm normally not all that interested. Finally we have Annihilation: Nova Corps Files, which is essentially the Marvel Handbook bios and stats on all the major characters from Annihilation. So, this book is a fine conclusion to a fun saga that was certainly much better than Marvel's other recent Events such as Civil War, World War Hulk and Secret Invasion.
