I have no idea if this would even be a politically correct book nowadays - probably not - but I don't have my copy anymore to verify that. Good memories of it, though. ( )
This reprint of a 1965 publication describes in simple prose for young readers the peopling of America and the pre-Contact lifeways of representative tribes of the Northwest Coast, Southwest, Southeast, Plains, and Northeast. Post-Contact and modern life are not covered. The book abounds in generalizations, stereotypes, and condescension. … Black, white, and orange illustrations are similarly stereotypical and tend to focus on the unusual and bizarre.
