I have just finished reading the first 25 pages twice. I am going to read them again. This book is packed with significant analysis and explanations of the monastic culture even though the author says that the work involves “simplifications and broad generalizations....” OK, I will read the first 25 pages again to see where those might be.

I remember when we studied this book during an MA on Spirituality it was pointed out to us that the title actually sums up monastic life - the love of learning and the desire for God. It's a text book, not a thrilling read, but it's a good one. ( )
