It's a story of three sisters, an author, an artist and a schoolgirl, who are orphans and who move to Guernsey as it's pretty cheap for them to live there on the little money they have. They meet with the Athertons from the Chalet School series and with love, sickness and a witch. It's typical of it's type and I enjoyed the read. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

It ties in with some of the Chalet School books, giving the background to families who appear in some of the Guernsey books, and also gives some interesting viewpoints of village life on this small island in the early part of the 20th century. There's some class consciousness which makes it seem rather old-fashioned, more so perhaps than the other customs and ways of talking, but overall I was very pleased to be able to re-read this.
