This was a quick and easy read and not a lot of depth to the story line, but I suspect the others will have a little bit more. Alys and Wolfer grew up and she gave him a braid of her hair that while during his exile seemed to calm Wolfer's temper. All easily fitting into his section of the prophecy. Morganen does confess to some manipulation of his brother's to help fulfill them and help them get married. Two down six more to go! ( ) The second in the series and I liked this story better than the first. Ok I have thing for shapeshifter type of magic. It was a good continuation of the series!!! Author Website: http://www.jeanjohnson.net/ Again, fun. A very different setup this time - a girl the brothers have known nearly all their lives escapes her wicked uncle and comes to them. She knows she's in love with the second-born; he doesn't know, immediately, that he's in love with her. One amusing aspect of these books is how, because of the prophecy, the men know perfectly well they're going to get married and evaluate every woman on that basis. The intention of marriage comes early on in each books, and in this one they say explicitly that sex before marriage is perfectly acceptable. So the romance part is over quickly - the uncertainty of their relationship; the latter half of the book is a combination of dealing with crises (an enemy attack, on this case; in Sword, it was a minor invasion followed by a kidnapping) and hot sex. Again, very explicit, and as much about building the relationship as about pleasure. Fun, want the next one! I've ordered it but have to wait. Latest reread: Good story. There's a lot of advancement of the series arc; I find the romance less interesting, Alys is a bit annoying. Wolfer likes her switching between shy and bold, I think it's rather silly. But their enemy is revealed, and dealt with, at a cost, and Nightfall's independence takes a few more steps. Good, not great but definitely worth reading. Johnson continues the Son of Destiny series that began with The Sword (2007). Alys, her uncle's prisoner, uses her shape-shifting talents to escape and reach Nightfall Isle, where she finds Wolfer, her closest childhood friend. In the castle she meets Kelly, the self-proclaimed Queen of Nightfall who is married to Wolfer's twin. Kelly triggered the curse around which Johnson's complex fantasy-romance series is constructed. Although the plot may be slow moving, those who love detailed lovemaking scenes will revel in the 20 pages devoted to Alys and Wolfer's first intimate encounter.
