I haven't read any of the sequels yet, so it may get more ~supernatural~ but as it stands, it's such a well-layered book. Lynn and her friend Mouse spend the summer gathering evidence that her sister Judith is a novice witch under the tutelage of an old neighborhood lady, Mrs. Tuggle. It's such an interesting look at sisterhood and a sibling's confusion at the onset of young adulthood. I thought it was really smart to conflate witchcraft with adolesence and puberty. Probably too subtle for it's audience, but great for those parents reading along. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

This is a creepy book. The suspense adds up as the story progresses and each time Lynn and her friend find out more about witches the more, they see Judith as one. I like how the evidences that show as a witch can be explain as something else. Making believable as to why Lynn parents would not believe her.
I like how it stand clear of neighbors whispering about the old lady that live alone is a witch trope.
What I don't like the father is not mention much. During the day the mom at the henhouse, Judith is at Creek or Mrs. Tuggle, and the little brother is in the house. The first chapter make it seem like a single parent household and when the dad is mention, I like to wait they do have a dad.
Points:
Characters: 5/5- the friendship between Lynn and Mouse is nice and the relationship with each of the siblings is well thought out. Lynn sees the changes in sister, how she uses to be close and now wants to be left alone.
Plot: 5/5 - have the right amount of suspect and creepiness.
Writing 4/5
Bones Points:
1 at times I did feel creep out and Mrs. Tuggle is quite scary. Out of all the scary old ladies I have read in books, Mrs. Tuggle is the scariest.
Total points: 15/20= 5 *stars*
I will defiantly search for the squal.
