Stopped reading after a couple chapters. ( ) DKA vs. the Gypsies--a whole lot of Gypsies. This is a lot of fun from start to finish. The plot takes more than one unbelievable turn, but as usual in this series, it is Gores' set pieces, usually involving the repossession of a car, that carry the day. All the great characters--Giselle, OB, Bart, Larry and of course Dan Kearney himself--are back, with a new character, speech-impaired Ken Warren, thrown into the mix. This is a much wilder story than its predecessors, and much sexier as well. If this doesn't entertain you, you just can't be entertained. I first came across these books after a stint of reading Dashiel Hammet. While Gores doesn't have that author's consummate skill, this book (and the others in the series) are a fun and painless romp. Some of the best parts are the bits when the car-repo agents are just going about their daily work of getting back cars from owners who have no interest in losing their rides. The main plot (involving a fleet of (32) Cadillacs and a gypsy king) is entertaining enough but hangs together very loosely. Gores does a good job of fleshing out characters that inhabit his novels, although there is some danger of them blending into the cookie-cutter nature of the story. In the end, the playful humor and real-life feeling of the repo scenes are what make this book worth reading. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

32 Cadillacs is the fourth novel in Joe Gores' delightful series about the San Francisco private eye firm Dan Kearny Associates. This time the squadmust recover 32 cadillacs stolen from their largest client by Gypsies to be a casket for their dying king. The result is a fast, furious, funny, nonstop action tale with esoteric Gypsy lore and hard-edged investigation. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
