As far as sequels go, Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 belongs in theranks of The Godfather: Part II ? a sequelthat improves on the original. What made the first release ofElements so impressive wasn't that it was especially easy to use;it was how much of Photoshop's power you could get for such a lowprice. Elements 2.0, however, takes big steps forward in both powerand ease. Photoshop Elements 2.0 For Dummies explains this programfrom the ground up, assuming that you know absolutely nothing aboutthe program or even about image editing in general. But step bystep, concept by concept, tool by tool, you'll gradually workthrough a thorough examination of Photoshop Elements 2.0 and theincredible things it can do for your images. You'll gain insight into Getting to know the Photoshop tools and palettes Editing your images Saving your files in proper format Making a bad image better Painting and distorting your images Just as one CD contains both the Windows and Mac versions ofElements, so this one took tells both Windows and Mac userseverything they need to know to use Elements on their system ofchoice. And because Elements 2.0 runs on both Windows XP and Mac OSX, we've also updated the figures in this book to show off thespiffy look of these two new operating systems. As an Elements user, you've got a whole lot of Photoshop powercoiled up inside your computer, waiting for you to discover how toharness it. One assumes that the "for dummies" label applies to the reader only before he or she reads the book. In this case, at least, it applies equally well to the reader who has finished the book. How else could you describe a person who persists in self-inflicted torture? As for the book itself, any book on this subject that takes 200 pages to get to use of the "dodge" and "burn" tools, and then provides the "helpful" advice that "D" for "dodge" stands for "darken", except it's really the opposite, deserves a "D-" for "dummy."
