I would like vampire books so much better if the vampires could go out in the sun. I always get so depressed on their behalf that they're stuck in the dark all the time.... ( ) n the year 1349, she was 10 years old - hardly a lifetime to know what it was like to be human when Gillian was turned into a upyr. Brought by her sire, Auriclus, to the woods where her body had shape-shifted to her perfect age, he left her to "live well and free" with others of her breed, the children of midnight, shapeshifting immortals who could run as both wolves and men. After some years spent with the pack of upyr's that were now her only family, she wanted knowledge of humans, her heart yearned for the world beyond. This story is less heavily erotic and more emotionally touching than some of her other books. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to read about "real" characters falling in love. Neither the hero nor heroine are perfect or dominant to each other. Just a really good romance story. I had read a later book in this series, Courting Midnight, and really enjoyed it. This one was not as enchanting. In Courting Midnight, what I really enjoyed was the subplot between the secondary couple, both of whom were human. They had real chemistry, which I just don't feel in this book in either of the vampire/human pairs. The relationships lacked any sense of newness or specialness. Just not my cup of tea, I guess. Deep in the Scottish woods live the children of the night. At times, they run through the wilderness as a pack of wolves; at others they take human form, pairing off to revel in the throes of sexual ecstasy. But when they cross paths with the world of the mortals, nothing will ever be the same... 1349. Orphaned by the plague, young Gillian is rescued from certain death by a pack of shape-shifting immortals. Once a human child, now Gillian is one of them herself, reveling in the pleasures of the flesh and the hunt. This ethereal beauty would be happy if only her heart did not yearn for the world beyond their caves... Aimery Fitz Clare is mortal, second son to a noble house, and a master falconer. Little does he dream that his latest "catch" is more than she seems. Gillian has taken a falcon's form to escape her immortal keepers, only to find herself losing her heart to her latest captor. Aimery's kindness is a powerful seduction, not to mention his human beauty and warmth. Does Gillian dare embrace this forbidden love, and can it survive her jealous breathren bearing their fangs? geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
