HTML:Thebestselling author of Hide and Gone draws us into the venomous mind games of a terrifying killer.
Come into my parlor . . .
For Kimberly Quincy, FBI Special Agent, it all starts with a pregnant hooker. The story Delilah Rose tells Kimberly about her johns is too horrifying to be trueâ??but prostitutes are disappearing, one by one, with no explanation, and no one but Kimberly seems to care.
Said the spider to the fly . . .
As a member of the Evidence Response Team, dead hookers arenâ??t exactly Kimberlyâ??s specialty. The young agent is five months pregnantâ??she has other things to worry about than an alleged lunatic who uses spiders to do his dirty work. But Kimberlyâ??s own mother and sister were victims of a serial killer. And now, without any bodies and with precious few clues, itâ??s all too clear that a serial killer has found the key to the perfect murder . . . or Kimberly is chasing a crime that never happened.
Kimberlyâ??s caught in a web more lethal than any spiderâ??s, and the more she fights for answers, the more tightly sheâ??s trapped. What she doesnâ??t know is that sheâ??s closeâ??too closeâ??to a psychopath who makes womenâ?? s nightmares come alive, and if he has his twisted way, it wonâ??t be long before itâ?? s time for Ki… (meer)
Kimberly Quincy is contacted by local police about a hooker claiming a serial killer is preying on her colleagues. Arguing about slowing down because of her pregnancy, Kimberly gets too close to the killer, who wants her to become a victim too. ( )
The creepy factor of this book is the killer has a thing for spiders, as in brown recluse and tarantula spiders. The premise of the story is the abduction and death of a series of prostitutes, but that's incidental to the heroine, Kimberly Quincy, finding the bad guy and the bad guy abducting and controlling children. Although it's not graphically descriptive of what he does to the children, the imagination fills in plenty - from that standpoint it's a bit gruesome and not for the faint hearted. An average thriller/mystery. ( )
This was a typical Lisa Gardner mystery. I really enjoy reading her books when I want something fast and entertaining. she manages to weave a tale that is both intriguing and a bit mysterious.
I realize that I have not said anything about the content of the book, but is this really a book that one has to go into a lot of detail about? It is not. If you like FBI crime series, then this is a book that you will enjoy. ( )

There are two ways in which spiders ingest food. Those with weak jaws puncture the body of the insect with their fangs and then slowly alternate between injecting digestive fluid through this hold and sucking back the liquefied tissues, until there remains but an empty shell ... others with strong jaws mash the insect to a pulp between the jaws, as the digestive fluid is regurgitated over it."
