I think part of the issue for me was that it is 4th in a series. It was an interesting take on the falsely accused trope that shows up in some thriller books. I enjoyed the fact that the main characters weren't just another officer pairing, and it did take me a bit to figure out who the murderer was. If you want to read these books definitely start with the first book. ( ) Bishop Regan and Davey Goldman set out to heap coals of fire upon the head of the man who was responsible for putting the Bishop into a wheelchair for life; by proving that he didn't commit a murder seven years later. This is clearly written with Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin in mind. The similarities are countless. To my mind, too similar. If written as an homage, it seems more like a rip off. The author would have done better to come up with a duo on his own because he can write, but in trying to imbue Archie's humor and Wolfe's sarcasm into this team, he misses the mark. The mystery was pretty good, although I would quibble with the motive for the murder. The characters were interesting. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

"The acclaim for William Love and his partners in crime-solving escalates with each new book..."Well-developed...tightly structured...a nail-biting conclusion" - (Publishers Weekly); "Entertaining, ingenious...a treat" (Kirkus Reviews); "A classic puzzle served up with wit and style" - (Sharyn McCrumb); "Love scores again...Davey Goldman and his awesome boss, Bishop Regan, sparkle in an ingenious plot" - (Carolyn G. Hart); "A 'bloody ten' is the grade...meaty, suspenseful read" - (Ralph McInerny)." "Such was the praise that greeted Bloody Ten, the previous appearance of the most provocative detective team since Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin - Wheelchair-bound Auxiliary Bishop Francis X. Regan, a frustrated crime-solver with a geniusy IQ of 220, and his special assistant Davey Goldman, a New York City cop-turned-private-eye." "In Bishop's Revenge, Bishop Regan's razor-sharp mind and Davey's street smarts are tested to the extreme, as they find themselves defending, of all people, the man who shot the bishop eight years earlier and put him in a wheelchair." "A delightfully intricate and baffling murder case is interwoven with flashbacks to the case that brought Davey and the bishop together, resulting in William Love's most inventive whodunit to date."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc.
