Forest animals, awakened by the birds' warning that there is a stranger in the woods, set out to discover if there is danger and find, instead, a wonderful surprise. This book is full of beautiful winter photographs. The story begins with the animals saying that there's a stranger in the woods. They wonder when the stranger arrived and who will go check out the stranger. They discover the stranger is friendly, it has nuts and seeds and a carrot too. Then they find another object in the snow and wonder if there's more than one stranger in the woods. After the food was gone, the animals left one by one. From behind the trees, little voices talk about how the animals have eaten everything and how they need to put out more food before the animals come back. They decide to keep putting out food until the snowman has melted away. A lovely book of photos instead of hand-made illustrations. It is winter, a time of hunger ad cold. The animals, particularly the deer, are curious about something new in the forest. It isn't a person, but three clumps of snow piled on top of each other. This snow thing wears a hat, and on the top are many seeds for the forest animals. As the birds in the trees alert all in the wood that something isn't right, the deer seek and find this new thing that provides a carrot and seeds. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
