First edition A great book, written by a not too great writer. Berry tells his tales of growing up in 30s /st. Louis, which was markedly racist in his youth, unlike Illinois, and he talks about his three arrests: one for holding up stores in KC, one a put up job accusing him of Mann Act violations, and one for tax evasion. when I was watching a Beatles movie from the 60s or 70s, John Lennon described most journalists as sick idiots and this is why he quit. Berry has the same bee in his bonnet but he is much nicer to these jerks than he should be. This is much better than Little Richard's autobiography. Chuck Berry set out to write it without help and finished 8 years later. He's quite frank about the stupid things he did (and that were done to him) and why he landed in jail a few times + his continuous unfaithfulness to his wife. If that doesn't stop you buying the book then you get a thoughtful, and interesting biography about life, racism, music and the music business. I don't agree that it's too much about money, contracts and investments. If the average person had been ripped off as much as C.B. was, it's bound to occupy a good deal of thought. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
