Marcie boards a strange bus to get to school. The bus informs her that she's riding on the Rosa Parks bus. The bus recounts Rosa Park's life from childhood on. This book touches on many subjects in African American history like civil rights, slavery, and racism. Bright illustrations make the book more whimsical and light.

The illustrations are beautiful and have many details. This is the story of Rosa Parks. A young girl named Marcie hopes on a bus in the morning to go to school and goes for an adventure to learn the story of Rosa Parks. Marcie learns that when Rosa parks was a young child, she has to walk to school while white children got to ride a bus. Rosa parks had to sit in the back of the bus when she grew up to go to work, and one day she was tired and refused to give up her seat for a white man. Marcie takes a ride through history on the bus. This is an excellent story to read during black history month or when you are teaching a unit of this time in history. ( )

If A Bus Could Talk was an interesting and great way to tell the story of Rosa Parks. This books gives another perspective about the life of Rosa Parks and it goes into detail about her childhood and how she used to live in fear, to everything that she was able to accomplish, and to all the people that adored and looked up to her. It talks about racism and how people go through their life in fear and how brave Rosa Parks was for not giving up her seat. Amazing book for kids learning about racism or Rosa Parks. ( )

When I think about pacing, this book did an amazing job summarizing Mrs. Parks life and legacy in about 20 pages! The talking bus was an amazing touch and it really caused even the character to be engulfed in the story. Kids would really enjoy this book for its cartoonish acrylics and interesting information. If A Bus Could Talk: The Story of Rosa Parks by Faith Ringgold is a fantasy tale about the perspective of the bus that Rosa Parks was famously arrested on. The bus walks a little girl through the events of prejudice and racism that occurred during Rosa Park’s life. In the end, you find out that the passengers are people that adored Rosa parks which include: Martin Luther King Jr, E.D. Nixon, and her husband Raymond Parks. I liked that this book went into details about Rosa Parks early childhood because it showed how Rosa lived in fear that the KKK would come to kill her at night. This wasn’t a detail of her life that I had heard before, and it an important detail because it shows that Parks wasn’t just tired the day she refused to give up her seat. She lived in fear her whole entire life, and she was incredibly brave for standing up to the people she was frightened of. ( )

This story is dedicated to Rosa Parks and all of the known and unknown men, women, and children of the Civil Rights movement who, through their singular acts of courage, made it possible for black people to vote; take a seat on a bus, in a movie theater, or at a lunch counter; and get a hotel room, just like any other American citizen.
