Ooookay. Major enemy not quite as dealt with as hoped...and some _major_ after (or not really after, yet) effects. The Saghred has some clever twists - and yes, there's a directing intelligence there, that knows what it wants. More Mychael, more Tam, more Pineas (poor kid - though he's turning out to be something special anyway). Elven versus goblin politics, Island of Mid mage politics, assassins and kidnappers and...non-stop action, on a lot of levels. Oh, and another Big Bad, who's far worse than Nukpana - he's had longer to develop his nastiness, among other things. There's no cliffhanger - the _immediate_ matter is dealt with - but the story is definitely ongoing. Next, please! ( )

Raine wants her life back but she has a stone that's very powerful and that has her as it's channel and keeper and there are several unsavoury people who want it. She has to try to find out information about it, discover how she can keep it from trying to make her take over the world and maybe have a life of her own. Meanwhile several people suspect that she's lying about not wanting power. She also has family with plans for her.

It's an interesting read and I had fun. I really should pick up the rest of the series. ( )

good adventure - likable characters - world building and character evolution both seem to have stalled. ( )

Raine is still kick ass, still bound to the Saghred and still trying to get rid of that binding. Tam surprises her with his black mage abilities and finds out he has a son. Mychael is there still trying to protect her. Piaris is accepted to be a student of Ronan the lead spellsinger. Sarud Nukpana even from inside the Saghred is making difficulties for Raine. ( )
