An extremely interesting book. The story of frontier free-range days in the Nebraska sandhills. A woman uses every means at her disposal to increase her land holdings - including pimping out her daughters and listening to bedroom talk behind false walls to stay informed about her neighbors. The main character is a third daughter who is used as a slavey in the kitchen, and how she eventually brings about her mother's downfall.

This book was actually banned in the Rushville/Gordon area. Sandoz apparently used some real events as the basis of her story. ( )
