Summary: Because of Anya, by Margaret Peterson Haddix is contemporary fiction. This books is about a ten year old who's name in Anya. her hair falls our and she wears a wig. she is afraid that people will discover that she is wearing a wig. her wig falls off during gym class, then she runs away from school and will not return to school. Personal reaction: I felt bad for Anya Classroom Extension ideas: Read the book Ask what they would do to help bring Anya back to school Because of Anya is about this girl who has a rare disease, alopecia areata, which is painless and otherwise harmless, but causes hair to fall out, sometimes all over the body. Her friends were talking one day, and realized that she was wearing a wig. They were going to ask her about it, but thought it would make her uncomfortable to they left it. A couple days later, while they were in gym, Anya's wig falls off, and she runs out of the class and doesn't come back to school for a long time. One of her friends go to Anya at her home, and finds out about the disease. I thought the idea of this book was really good but it was quite a short book for the story and ending very quickly. Other than that, it was a good book but wasn't as good as some of Haddix's other books. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

This book is a good read for early middle school students and 5 graders. This book has a lot of sad parts. But it all makes up for it in the end. It shows courage and bravery. Because of Anya it a trilling book it takes you on an emotional roller coaster. When I read it I never wanted to put it down. I picked up this book because I can never find any book with the main character named Anya. This book is a great read. I recommend it to middle school and 5 grade. ( )
