I think this, the third, is slightly better again, though I wondered most of the way through when I would have liked to read this—maybe at age 6? So, it mightn't appeal to precocious readers. Given that it's targeted to middle-graders, there's nothing exceedingly sinister in the content. As another reviewer has noted, the series probably appeals more to Hyde Parkers more than most, though this installment is set in England. The Calder game is about a boy who goes missing, along with a Calder sculpture. So two of his friends fly to England to help his dad search for him. The book involves lots of puzzles and mysteries. This book would work well with building a Calder sculpture in the classroom. But as a read aloud to my students, it did get a little long. I liked the first two books in the series, the mysteries contained therein were better thought out and had a much better flow. It seemed as the author was at a loss and this story not only seemed a bit more difficult to follow, but the clues and the characters felt a bit limp... The art history angle of the books is a good way to mix non-fiction with fiction and might lead a child who is reading this series into exploring great artists. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
