T"he Warrior's Apprentice" was enjoyable, and "The Mountains of Mourning" made me have some Feelings, but I raced through "The Vor Game" in like three days, delighted and really pulled along for the first time in a minute (not only with this series). I'm excited to get to keep reading in this 'verse. The Warrior's Apprentice, the Mountains of Mourning, and the Vor Game all together in one omnibus volume. Miles remains one of my favourite characters in fiction, and young Miles - half impulsive and cocky, half insecure and still working out who he is - is possibly my favourite age of Miles. The Mountains of Mourning is I think one of the best short stories ever written - the way people do evil things to repeat what was done to them is heartbreaking. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe

It isn't easy, being Vor... Being a Vor lord on the war-torn planet Barrayar wasn't easy. Being an officer in Barrayar's military wasn't easy. And being the leader of a force of spaceborne mercenaries while maintaining a secret identity wasn't easy, in fact it should have been impossible, to say nothing of being a capital offense on Barrayar. I read this non-stop while traveling Saturday. SO. MUCH. FUN. Miles Vorkosigan is at his outrageously intelligent, hyperactive, utterly fabulous prime. Wish it had never ended, and now I have to wait before I can read it again...!

So I totally read this again.... It's funny to me that some people don't reread; I reread a lot. Sometimes I get in the mood for something particular and I know a book that can scratch that itch. Plus, I almost always find some new detail I never noticed before.

Oh look, I'm reading "Warrior's Apprentice" again. Miles is obviously the apprentice, but who is the warrior here? Bothari? Tung? The entire Dendarii fleet? Hm.
THE VOR GAME
I know it has no plot, but I just fuckin' love this book. It is ridiculously fun. ( )
