Its chief emotion is an elegiac sadness for a bygone lifestyle and many bygone buildings - though some of the mansions still stand today (many repurposed). If you're looking for exact locations of the mansions you won't find them here, but you can find them with some online detective work. ( ) Brief history of some of the mansions of Long Island's "Gold Coast". Numerous photos - many dating back to the '20s, '30, and '40s.
