I liked this poetry book for many different reasons. I liked that the author included many different cultures and manifestations of Christmas. For example, the author wrote a poem called “Los Pastories.” I liked that the author included traditional poems as well as poems from the Spanish cultures, like “Los Pastories”. This helped the reader learn more about different cultures views on Christmas. The author also included many aspects of poetry like imagery. For example, in the poem, “Candy Cane” the author wrote, “hot, wintry, mint, striped round with fire and snow.” The use of imagery helped readers visualize the poems and understand the scene and point of view. These poems helped readers look at things in new ways because this book was comprised of poems from different cultures and included different aspects of Christmas. Readers would definitely enjoy reading these poems.

SUMMARY
This poetry book includes selections that cover various aspects of the Christmas holiday. It includes poems relating to the Christian religion, candy canes, and the Christmas spirit.

REVIEW
I like that this poetry focuses on various aspects of the holiday. It covers the religious aspect, the traditional aspect, and the myth aspect of the holiday. I like that it includes the classic tale of The Night Before Christmas, which is alternatively titled "A Visit from St. Nicholas." It even includes actual bible verses, including St. Luke 2:8-14. I thought it was interesting that it included a poem entitled "Los Pastores." I loved that it was the Spanish version of Jesus in the manger. It even included Spanish words, such as "the old diablo." I liked reading this book. The main point is to give children poems to read with their families during Christmas time. One reason I liked this book is because of the variety of genres it contains. There are poems about candy canes, Santa Claus, Angels and Jesus. I think children will really appreciate all the different types of poems that the book has because this way not every poem is in the same style of writing or about the same topic, so it will stay interesting. The other reason I like this book is because most of the poems are short even so that the children don't get bored of the same poem. Most of the poems only take up a little bit of the page, so the children can take a break in between each poem to talk about it or look at the pictures. ( )
