There is a combination of simplistic pictures and a decently long paragraph of storyline on each page. The story is told from the point of view of a dog, named Benjy. Benjy is a lovable family dog that gets annoyed by the barking parrot of his owners’ aunt. He ends up accidently letting the bird out of its cage, which in reality ended up being a better plan than what he had in mind before. The family goes out frantically looking for this bird, including Benjy because he feels bad after seeing how distraught the family was. Benjy goes to a pet store to find the bird a companion so she will go back into her cage. The bird comes back and seems content with the fact that she has a new companion. Benjy saves the day and is rewarded by Aunt Sarah. The illustrations are simple and old fashioned which helps pull the reader more into the story instead of the pictures. After reading this book, the class could discuss how what Benjy did, why it was wrong, and how he problem solved which ended up rewarding him for his cleaver thinking. A teacher could use this book to illustrate how people make mistakes and misjudge others. To get to know others, one has to simply ask what is wrong and access how they can help. Being helpful has it rewards. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
