Advertising executive Charles Schine looks up one morning on the train and sees `an expanse of thigh' - which leads to his subsequent involvement in adultery, violence - so much, such nauseating violence - blackmail, murder, a police hunt, the collapse of his career in advertising, of his marriage ... I can't see any reading group getting beyond the variegated rapes in chapter 10. This appears to be James Siegel's first work, as the press release mentions no other writing by him - just the advertising awards he has won and the advertising campaigns he is currently engaged in. These include `his much hyped $50000 campaign for his own book ... from raunchy ads to giving out books at Grand Central Station'. I know of no other book promoted on the grounds of its own `impressive promotion campaign' - but would not dispute that that could well be the best thing about this book. Onderscheidingen
