Each state has the nickname, capital, state flower, and state bird. Also, this book includes jokes, and pictures. ( ) I like this informational book for two reasons. First, I like the content. I like how for each state the author included, the nickname, statehood, capital, state flower, and state bird. Also, the author includes jokes, quizzes, images, and quotes. For example, one joke the author includes is, “What did Dela wear to the ball? Ida ho. Al aska.” It makes reading an informational book more appealing and engaging, while remaining factual. Second, I like how interactive this book is. For each state, the author questions the reader and answers those questions. For instance, for Alaska, the author asks “How can you travel two thousand miles across frozen Alaska without a motor? By sled-dog!” Not only does the author make the reader use critical thinking skills but he also gives interesting state culture information. For instance, you would not find sled dogs in Florida! The big idea is the importance of the United States. This book is about the 50 states and how the United States became what it is today. This book gives facts on each of the 50 states. Each page is devoted to a particular state; the typical facts of the states are given (i.e. date of statehood, nickname, capital, and state bird and flower). Davis also throws in three interesting facts about each state in the form of questions and answer. For example Alaska, he asks "what could you do with 425 Rhode Islands?"; the answer...fit the inside Alaska!! Each state has interesting facts presented about them. I think this book would good for a student interested in the states and their particular history. A student would refer to this book if they were doing a project on states in general or a particular state. 1. This book gives a few facts about each state, the state capital, the year of statehood, the state nickname, and the state flower and state bird. It also gives the two letter abbreviates of each state, a picture of the state with the state capitol depicted, and miscellaneous information about each state. 2. This book was simple, concise, to the point, and not over whelming. The illustrations complimented the words and it had a hard cover. 3. I would use this book as a reference for the PASS objective standard 2.4 Locate on a map and identify the states, their capitals, and major metropolitan centers of the United States by region (e.g., New York City, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Miami). geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
