A very well-assembled book of maps, pictures and copies of memorabilia of D-Day and beyond to Paris. This book is unique in that there are copies of actual items of D-Day interest such as an edition of the Stars and Stripes with the news of D-Day, a few pages of a diary, documents on the Mulberry docks and a few pages of selected maps. Enough commentary to give a good picture of the preparations for the invasion and then the daily progress of the troops. Would be a fine teaching aid for a young person interested in this momentous event. ( ) geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
D-Day, the largest amphibious invasion in history, took place on 6 June 1944. The subsequent battle of Normandy involved over a million men, and helped seal the fate of The Third Reich. Seventy-five years on, this is a graphic account of the planning and execution of Operation Overlord, as well as the campaign that effectively destroyed the German forces in France, opening the way for the Allied advance. Filled with information on key personnel, weapons and military units, this fascinating book is enhanced through the inclusion of documents, such as intelligence maps, situation reports, letters, and leaflets, which bring events to life.
