Quizá la palabra “pesadilla” sea la más adecuada para describir el mundo de La Torre Negra, una pesadilla que aturde, atrapa y sumerge en un universo fuera de cualquier contexto, en niveles no identificados, en un ignoto cruce de tiempo y espacio.
La Torre Negra también podría compararse al Infierno descrito por Dante, pues, al igual que en La Divina Comedia, los personajes de Farmer descienden a un reino subterráneo donde sus moradores están prisioneros y acechados por una serie de monstruos y seres extraños. Sin embargo, la diferencia entre el Infierno y La Torre Negra es muy significativa, pues en ésta brilla la esperanza a pesar de todo.

It's normally quite difficult to come into a series in the middle (book 3 to be exact), but after I conquered the first 50ish pages I had things figured out. The characters are so distinct (or inhuman) that they are easily told apart, and the adventure plot keeps your mind distracted and entertained in the meantime. Unfortunately we're missing out on De Lint's signature style (since he's writing only one book in a lengthy series, that the series' tone takes precedence over his own), but he still gives us a roiling adventure through one of the levels of the Dungeon. Out of the dungeon, and into the Land of the Lost! Well, they still are in the Dungeon, really, since it seems to be infinite, but the scenery has changed. There was probably supposed to be a point at the end of this book, but I never really felt it achieved one. ( )
