A boy describes his dream of becoming a snail that lives in his yard. I enjoyed this book because it gave a different perspective. It would be very helpful in teaching the skill of imagery and the use of descriptive words. It could also work as a meditation book because it takes one through the steps of “becoming” a snail. The illustrations throughout are helpful in distinguishing the perspective at which the reader should be imagining in because as the story progresses, the person is turning into the snail, therefore the perspective must narrow in to a closer or smaller view. To help set the mood, the book informs the reader on what they need to do, “You are two inches long, lying on the brown ground all soft and grey. Imagine you have no arms and legs now. Imagine you cannot walk or run. Instead you glide and make your own smooth sticky path to ride on. It is easy to move this way and it feels cool and good,” it describes. The book contains a rich amount of vocabulary that students can learn and later use in their writings and discussions with others. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
