Here is all you need to know:
-The author is a Creationist and End Times Believer
-He claims to have had almost no understanding of dinosaurs (until adulthood, if I read him right) and spent much of his early life ignoring their existence or just pretend the didn't exist. why? Because he couldn't wrap his head around their place in Biblical History.
-He believes the Bible is the inerrant word of God... there are no mistakes or contradictions
-He has almost no understanding of science but dismisses scientific theories and hypotheses because they have been shown to be wrong. His proof? He cites (in the same single paragraph) an article from "Science" published in 1959 and an article from "Nature" published in 1970. This book was published in 1996. Think about that for a minute. The ONLY non-Biblical sources he cites IN THE ENTIRE BOOK are at least 25 years old when the book was written. And these two sources only tell of a couple of instances where the dating systems used by science got the dates terribly wrong. Therefore, as Harris keeps reminding the reader, science is unreliable guessing and can't be trusted to tell us anything. Only the Bible is reliable.
-Although he's not above using vague scientific ideas that support his ridiculousness
-He takes great liberties with his version of the Bible by insisting on a Pre-Adamic Earth, which doesn't even have full support of other Creationists.
Basically, this is a guy who has no scientific training and because he found a couple of things that seem to support his lack of scientific understanding, believes that science is bunk and if the Bible doesn't talk about it, then it isn't true. ( )
