British kingship has long been known, which is why this recount of King Arthur and the Round Table sticks to the tradition. Hudson retells the story of King Arthur's journey after retrieving the Pendragon sword from the stone that no one else could pull out. The style of Hudson's writing seemed to be more formal than most picture books. It seemed a bit too wordy for young readers. The themes may have been difficult to follow along with for students who are below a third grade reading level.
King Arthur originally cared more about his pride than leading his people. He was too stubborn to realize that the quests he pursued were reckless and put his country in danger. After he finally retrieved the Excalibur sword, he put his pride aside and decided to serve his country with dignity. This teaches readers that you, one day, have to grow up and take on responsibilities whether you are ready or not. ( )

Talbott's King Arthur is a great book to introduce British literature to children. I loved the illustrations. ( )

I love reading anything about King Arthur because I have just always loved the legend. There are many different retellings and this is one retelling I have not heard of. ( )
