This book analyzes the making of the Overlord Embroidery, as well as the historical events it depicts. The Overlord Embroidery tells the story of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy in 34 hand-stitched panels. It was commissioned in 1968 by Lord Dulverton, who set up a military advisory committee to help him decide what events the embroidery would represent. Sandra Lawrence, a young British artist, designed the embroidery and it took five years for embroiderers to stitch. It hangs in the Pentagon in Washington, DC.
