"The Profit" is a moderately humorous parody of Gibran's "The Prophet", in which "The Master" offers sage advice and insights to his gullible followers. The parody is clever, though at times sophomoric. Its mystical aphorisms are sufficiently on - target that some could have been inserted into "The Prophet" itself with little notice.

Now out of print, an incomplete version of the text is available online here: http://rsidd.online.fr/profit/profit.html However, the original is worth getting as a used book for the complete text and illustrations. Among the wise pieces of advice and insight are the following:

"There is no easy way to bathe a hummingbird".

"Even the best of friends cannot attend each others' funeral."

"It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle if it is lightly greased."

"The earth is like a grain of sand, only much heavier"

"I have seen the future, and it is very much like the present. Only longer".

Sure, its humor is sophomoric; but potential readers who think parody is appropriate for pretentious profundity may appreciate "The Profit." ( )

Funniest if read side by side with the better-known "The Prophet" by Gibran. To quote from the introduction: "During much of Albran's lifetime, he was widely thought to be dead. This confusion was the result of the trance-like state Albran affected at public appearances." From the cover: "Illustrated by the author with twelve mystical, hard-to-understand drawings."
