The oldest football club in Australia is celebrating its 150th year in 2008 and a special book is being released to mark the occasion. The Illustrated History of Melbourne FC since 1858 commemorates the history of this great VFL/AFL club, in both words and images, and features a series of essays by some of Australia's leading journalists and historians, including Robin Grow, Gillian Hibbins, Jim Main, Peter Wilmoth, Andrew Johnstone, David Allen and Ben Collins. Complemented by strong photographs, memorabilia and illustrations, the book traces the history of the club back to its origins - and the origins of Australian Football - in 1858.We take a close look at club icons such as Ron Barassi and Garry Lyon; the coaches, including the legendary Norm Smith; the MCG, home of the club; and each of the Demons' six Brownlow Medallists. We review the club's 12 premierships, including the incredible run of five flags in six years from 1955-60 when Melbourne established itself as one of the most dominant teams in League history. Five former players from that hugely successful era share their recollections of the Melbourne dynasty. The Illustrated History of Melbourne FC since 1858 is the perfect book for Demons supporters and Australian sport fans. EDITOR DETAILS: John Murray is a writer and editor at Geoff Slattery Publishing. He has edited a number of GSP titles including, Cricket Australia Season 2007-08 Official Guide, An Illustrated History of Essendon Football Club, Anna Flowers and Crunch Time!
