Not your typical ghost story. Although, I found the characters exasperating at times.....the girls refusal to believe their Mother was seeing their dead sister, even though they were seeing her as well..Elizabeth's ignorant decision making....I still really enjoyed it. ( ) I finally gave up on this one about a hundred pages in. I tried. I truly, truly tried, only because, unlike some Masterton novels that, when read, feel like he blew them out in a week or two, this one actually had some depth to it. Unfortunately, along with the depth, it took ages for anything meaningful to happen. And, honestly, I'm finding now that I simply can't take Masterton's fucked-up sex stuff anymore. It's not so good it's uncomfortable, it's not so bad it's hilarious, it's not even so weird it's thought-provoking...or eye-wincing. No, it's more that it's just...well, stereotypical of Masterton. The one I hit in this novel involved an apparently handsome priest and a far-too-underage girl. And the revelation is that he's been involved in a few trysts with more than just one. If you read enough Masterton, he seems to have a hate-on for religion in general, and priests in particular. Not that I give a shit either way, I'm not necessarily a fan of organized religion myself. But it's a thing that he returns to again and again through his books, especially his Katie Maguire series. Anyway, too much Masterton sex, not enough horror. But the writing was a bit better than he usually does. The problem is, I loved him when he was pushing out books like [b:The Manitou|1828266|The Manitou (Manitou #1)|Graham Masterton|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1387738423s/1828266.jpg|2949432] and [b:Charnel House|363397|Charnel House|Graham Masterton|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1351024669s/363397.jpg|2284952] and others back in the late 70s. I guess I'm going to have to stop giving him a pass now, because he isn't that great. Spirit is not Graham Masterton's newest book, by any means, but it was my first experience with his work. I promise it won't be my last. A family is haunted when the youngest of 3 Sisters drowns in the family pool. A totally original twist on the ghost story. Tying the fairy-tale of "The Snow Queen" into a truly frightening and imaginative work. Little Peggy only wants to protect her big Sisters, even when they no longer want that protection or when it threatens to take away what one Sister loves the most. Available in paperback from Amazon.com. http://www.amazon.com/Spirit-Graham-Masterton/dp/084394935X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&a...
