Fairly standard yet entertaining story of a wagon train headed for destruction. ( ) Typical western. There are good guys and bad guys. There are Indians. It's a wagon train taking supplies. Lots of shooting. Much of the action in this one occurs in the Big Horn Mountains. All's well that ends well. I'm not a fan of the genre, but at least L'Amour is readable and reads quickly, making it less painful to someone who doesn't like the genre. Matt Bardoul is headed to the Black Hills, part of a large, heavy-loaded, super-secret wagon train. The goal is said to be gold, and the establishment of a new town, but Matt has his suspicions. He also has an eye on the beautiful Jacquine Coyle - daughter of one of the leaders of the train. As they move further and further from civilization, tensions increase on the company - until all hell breaks loose. One of L'Amour's later works. In several places he segues into commentary on the "get it and get out" mentality of the western expansion and its long term disastrous affect on the environment., and on the Native Americans. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
