Different perspective when taken in to account relationship with spouse. ( ) 5772. Hidden Power Presidential Marriages That Shaped Our History, by Mari Marton (read 30 Dec 2021) This book examines the marriages of Presidents Wilson, FDR, Truman, JFK, LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, the older Bush, Clinton, and George W. Bush. The book was published in 2001. I found the book consistently of interest though I did not always agree with the author's conclusions. Some of what one is told about such great presidents as FDR, JFK, LBJ, and Clinton, while we have long known of their misbehavior, is not enjoyable reading. On the other hand what one is told of Nixon is agreeable reading. An intriguing look at the lives of the first ladies and how they affected the presidents and their administrations from Woodrow Wilson through George W. Bush. One chapter is devoted to each family, although oddly enough, there is no chapter on the Eisenhowers. I enjoyed this look at the influence wielded by the wives of the presidents, both personally and politically. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
