For Awful Ogre, the coming of summer offers opportunities to get outside and swim, visit a favorite hotel, and climb an isolated mountain. Throughout this set of whimsical poems, youngsters will be entertained not only by Awful Ogre's actions but also by the rhythm of the poetry.

After reading this book I decided that I like it a lot. The illustrations were very interesting and I feel as if there was a lot of meaning behind all of them. They all are extremely detailed and have a lot going on in them. For instance, on the page where "The Awful Ogre Attends a Concert" it shows that everything is mashed up on the stage whilst the crown is cheering and being rowdy the whole time. Secondly, I enjoyed the way that each poem was about the same Ogre, but was made interesting and drew the reader in. The Ogre is doing all sorts of crazy things which makes reading poetry fun. The big idea behind this book is to make poetry fun and interesting to read by joining the text with the pictures and following the crazy adventures of the Ogre. ( )

A fun book of poetry that takes you on an adventure with an ogre as he goes through daily ogre stuff. A yucky fun kind of book that has illistrations that brings life as an ogre alive. It is a book with an adventure while still using poetry.

A hilarious and gross collection of poems concerning the awful ogre. The illustrations help connect readers to the awful Ogre's awful world wonderfully.

This is a funny poetry book for older students. I would use this for probably third or fourth grade kids. Uses a lot of humor to keep students engaged.

In a series of poems, Awful Ogre goes on a picnic with a his ogress, hunts bugs, wrestles crocodile, visits his Grandma and does a little ogre yoga. Awful Ogre is humorous, mischievous, and just plain silly. His childlike appearance and behavior will be quite relatable for children. Recommended for kids in Pre-K to Grade 3, Prelutsky's poems are witty, entertaining and fun to read aloud. The illustrations are bright and comical and match the action in the poems nicely. ( )
