A smaller navy, by necessity, and a navy quite invested in the Danube River fleet, Austria was an oddity among the WWI navies. Only the Russians had a similar set of tasks. Mr. Greger, has written a very valuable handbook. Those interested in the Ottoman, Italian and French navies of the period should also invest in this book. In World War I the Italian fleet was again much bigger, nevertheless, the Austro-Hungarian Navy was held in such respect by the Allies that the Italian Navy was further strengthened by British and French battleships, cruisers, destroyers, submarines and patrol vessels.
