I agree with the reviews that do not love this book. I don’t love this book. Spoiler- I have never liked Goodnight Moon. I do also agree that this can read like a How To for falling asleep and many children need help with that. I think this is a good one to try along with Going To Sleep On The Farm.

Do not expect the bold, plain style of Goodnight Moon.

This is not illustrated by Margaret Wise Broen but I did read reviews about toddlers loving this book. Sometimes little children do have a hard time understanding how to go to sleep and this does provide a framework.

This is a perfect night time read. Margaret Wise brown talks about a little sleepy boy and a big sleepy men. The little sleepy boy then talks about all the things he thinks about before going to bed. I think this is a good night time read because it will help children understand it's ok to think and dream while going to sleep. Also, if read before bed the child will be thinking about sleep already and hopefully will fall fast asleep after. Also, I am noticing Margaret Wise Brown is mostly one for simple text. Not much eleborting just straight to the point. I think those kind of books are catered to really young children who do not sit for long. ( )

The Sleepy Men by Margaret Wise Brown tells a story about two men falling asleep and dreaming about the moon. I had mixed feelings about the actual plot and writing, but really enjoyed the text, text features, and illustrations. The writing was a bit disorganized. I always felt like I needed to reread the page I had just read. I did not enjoy the story. The plot was repetitive and boring. I did, however, love how the pages were laid out! The way the words were twisting and turning throughout the page, big and small, with different fonts gave a wispy feel to the book! The illustrations really enhanced the dream-like mood of the story. As I opened the book, I was really excited to read about the two men, but once I did the story didn’t match my excitement or expectations. I am guessing the big idea of this story is about getting ready for bedtime. ( )

The Sleepy Men is a book about a "big sleepy man" and a "little sleepy man." The two men simultaneously yawn, stretch, and put their heads on their pillows, etc. together throughout the story. The big sleepy man tells the little sleepy man a story about the man in the moon and how he got to be there. The little sleepy man listens to the story but doesn't say a word - eventually, he falls asleep and dreams about the man in the moon.
type: picture book, easy
Genre: fantasy
