The actual story ended half way through the book. The story is about a boy named Jack, who wants to defeat this giant. The giant keeps stealing food, crops, animals, and sometimes humans. Jack hides and makes a hole by the giant's home. The giant falls in the trap, and Jack kills him. The second half of the story talks about things giants do that affect humans. For example, when a giant laughs, that is the sound of thunder to humans. I liked this book. I just thought the story was a bit too short. ( ) This book retells this traditional story in verse and rhyme. It's about the classic tale of a boy who climbs a beanstlak, kills a giant and wins a fortune for himself and his mother and they live happily ever after. I like the illustrations because it seems to keep in time with the traditional telling of the story. The story itself, as retold by this author, is a little off from what I grew up knowing. I don't remember a giant wife or the conversation the giant wife and jack have. I also don't remember Jack marrying a princess. Of course, to each his own, but all in all i loved the story anyway, especially since it reminded me of my version when i use to tell it to my son when he was little. I think kindergarden and first grade level kids might like the telling of the story because of the sound effects a person could use while reading it to the children. I also could see kindergarden and first graders reading the book and using it for a project like the telling of their own version. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
