Once again Claire Thompson has given us a sweet love story that works on so many levels and gives me all the feels. Like with just about every other Claire Thompson book I've ever read, it's kind of hard to put it under one trope. I mean, it's kind of first time gay, but it's not quite that. I think that we should just create tropes specifically for Claire Thompson, because it would probably make it easier to describe it. I love Will and Jack's chemistry from the very beginning, even before they try to have any kind of relationship. I like that they build some kind of friendship before they start any kind of romantic relationship. I also like how Will is so careful with Jack and lets Jack take the lead a lot of the time. It's a great story and a beautiful love story. Claire Thompson once again shows she cannot properly pace action between words and needs to have a lot of talking with little to nothing telling us what's going on. Page one we jump into talks about an old woman with aging bones and WWII, and from there it's her normal Thompson style. The writing is all over the place, pacing is bad and I'm not sure if this was supposed to become smut or just a confusing mess of romance. The discovering his bisexuality late into his life is a great angle, but in Thompson's hands it got barely used at all. It's not the worst romance, but it's a mess to read and very easy to DNF if you've never seen how Thompson handles her literature. The reactions of the men seemed realistic, but I couldn't really connect to these characters. Will said one thing, and behaved counter that; Jack was sooo repressed it was depressing; Jack's son Eric was a douche, and the one guy I found interesting, Jack's oldest son, was only in the story for a minute... I'd like to read his story (if only I could remember his name:|). There is a LOT of talking in this book and at times I felt as if I was being given a lot of "political" talk, which is a little off-putting. I did feel for Jack the most, however. To have been married to such a sexually repressed woman, when he is already combating his own sexuality was sad. I am happy that he was able to find freedom in being himself and glad Will pushed him to find his sexual self... I just wish he didn't talk so freaking much. Overall, a very nice story, if not a favored one. Based on the reviews I was expecting more. It was not bad, but I was not emotionally invested in either character. It was a sweet story, but I was looking for a bit more storyline. There were times when either character was talking and in my mind I thought of the Peanuts teacher, "wah wah wah" as they just rambled on and on. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
Onderdeel van de reeks(en)Handyman (1)
Handsome, sexy and gay, Will Spencer used and discarded lovers as easily as he made his Wall Street stock trades. He was used to taking whatand whohe wanted. Jack Crawford, a recently widowed handyman, never thought of himself as gay. Frightened by an erotic encounter years before, Jack had never embraced his deepest sexual longings. In an unlikely pairing, Will and Jack explore an incendiary relationship, sometimes humorous, sometimes heartbreaking, always scintillatingly erotic. Jack is forced to confront feelings hes hidden for a lifetime. Will is faced with something he isnt sure he can handlelove. Geen bibliotheekbeschrijvingen gevonden. |
