Amelia Bedelia is a housekeeper who is going to help Miss Edwards at the school science fair for the day. Amelia is very funny and does some crazy things like, puts Mr. Rogers’ reading glasses in the dish washer with the rest of the kitchen glasses. Amelia says that Mr. Rogers calls her a rocket scientist, but not in actual science, in cleaning and baking pies. While Amelia is volunteering at the science fair, she finds so many different projects that the students have created. She tires to help some that need help, but it turns into a disaster. Dr. Dinglebatt is a scientist from the University who came to the school to help judge the science fair. I like how the book shows readers the different science fair projects and some students talk about their project in the book. This is a great book that’s not only funny, but this shows readers what a science fair is and the different inventions that students come up with. Amelia is a rocket scientist when it comes to baking because her recipe is in science formula instead of regular words. Everyone loves her pie at the science fair! This is a really good book to read in a science lesson or to students who are in the process of doing their own science fair project. ( )

Amelia Bedelia, Rocket Scientist? By Herman Parish and illustrated by Lynn Sweat is a fictional book about Amelia Bedelia going to a science fair. She gets into trouble with a vacuum, exploding volcano experiment and such. I think I would use this book as read aloud material during a quiet lunch day. It has no scientific content besides being at a science fair. It would be a fun book to read aloud if a science fair was coming up and students were wondering what that is. Maybe it could set the tone for them to brainstorm what to do their project on or inspire them to simply be apart of it. ( )

This Amelia Bedelia book is one of many that will make beginning readers chuckle while turning through the pages. This housekeeper is always up to something and during this story, she is off to the science fair. There are many jokes that some children may not "get" the first time reading, but that doesn't ruin the story at all. As a child, I was always amused by Amelia Bedelia, but reading her books now, I am realizing that there's no way I "got" many of these jokes. Entertaining, to say the least! ( )

Amelia Bedelia is going to help Miss Edwards at the science fair. She is not as helpful as she thinks because she gets confused easily and takes everything that is told to her very literally. Whenever she tries to help a student, she ends up making a mess. I enjoyed Amelia Bedelia books when I was younger. I was always laughing at the funny things she would say and do. Looking at it from an academic perspective, it can provide young readers with a relaxing, easy read, but, I think, it is not the most beneficial book for a science class. It briefly covered some scientific topics but nothing too in depth. I think overall it was a funny and interesting book, but I do not think I would use it in my lesson plan. I do think, however, I would have it in my classroom library. ( )

in this story, Amelia Bedelia acts as a helper in the school science fair. Naturally, Amelia runs into all sorts of misunderstandings, from insisting children are way too young for "makeup" tests, to wondering why Dr. Dinglebatt, the judge, is a mad scientist. Havoc breaks loose when Amelia Bedelia adds too much baking soda to a volcano model, and when the professor's hairpiece falls on a computer...I like how she gets into all sorts of mishaps but ends up having a positive ending..
