Wong and related to get life as a chinese-korean american. She separates them into "chapters" based on these cultures, but also blends them with her style of poetry. ( ) Inside this collection, there are 3 different sections of poems, Korean poems, Chinese poems, and American poems. Within these 3 sections the author talks about her mothers side, which is Korean, her father's side, which is Chinese, and her own background with a mixture of both cultures and being born and raised in America. I could definitely use some of these poems in a classroom as a culturally diverse reference on poetry as well as a learning experience about stereotypes and cultural awareness. Some of my favorites are "Hospitality," "Money Order," and "Face It." Audience: 5-8th grade This is a wonderful poetry book about Chinese, Korean and American cultures blended together. It brings out the immigrant experience through the eyes of a young girl and depicts the different traditions and food involved. I loved the poem about Kimchi and how its made by the poets family. This will be a perfect book for middle schoolers to get to know multicultural traditions and viewpoints. This series of poems capture Korean and Chinese cultures while also representing the conflicting experiences of the children of immigrants in American as well as universal truths regarding family relationships. Use it to demonstrate perspetive and voice combined with conflict are used to establish social and personal themes. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
