This charming novel about a Bengali-American matchmaker in San Francisco who creates an imaginary fiancé in order to satisfy her marriage-minded traditional parents offers a fresh variation on the timeless theme of a young woman's quest for true love. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Lina Ray has a knack for pairing up perfect couples as a professional matchmaker in San Francisco, but her well-meaning, highly traditional Indian family wants her to get married. Lina Ray is a professional matchmaker in the San Francisco bay area who has yet to make her own match. When at her sister’s wedding in India, her Aunt Kiki insists on arranging a marriage. To save herself from “the bachelor from hell” she blurts out “I’m engaged!” Before she knows it she has invented a gorgeous, rich man, and now Aunt Kiki is headed to California to check him out and confirm the match. Lina has just two months to meet and get engaged to her dream prince!

Okay, this is chick-lit, with a cultural nuance. The characters are thinly drawn caricatures, and the plot is what you’d expect from the description. It’s a fast, fun read, but there isn’t much substance here. Sometimes a girl just needs a little mind candy; it did satisfy several challenges for me, and it’s one more book off the TBR mountain. (

This was a very cute little book with a sweet premise. I liked the rich flavours of the book, it was very vivid. The ending left me a bit unsatisfied, it felt slightly rushed. but how could I resist a book with a bossy Auntie Kiki in it? (

A short fast paced read about what the pressures of tradition and family can lead a girl to do. In the case of this book it led the main character, Lina Ray, to make up a fiancee to avoid the matchmaking attempts of her Indian family while attending her sisters wedding in India. One small little lie soon blows up into a fiction bigger than Lina can contain. Soon the whole wedding is abuzz with the news and plans for her wedding are under way. When Lina returns to the states she tries to find Mr Right fast because she doesn't want to disappoint her family. Its not long before she reunites with that mysterious stranger she bumped into (literally) at her sister's wedding. There isn't much depth in this book, the characters are all pretty two dimensional and as with most books that fall into the chick lit genre the plot is a predictable. But despite all that it was still a fun read. Lina is a character that every single gal in their late 20s can relate too. There are times when this book is very cheesy and there are others that it makes you laugh out loud. This is the sort of book that makes for a good beach read. Light-hearted and fun.

A pleasant Sunday afternoon sort of reading. Very easy to read in one sitting. Ticks along nicely.

Lina, although Indian, knows nothing except San Francisco. On returning to India for a family wedding enough is enough and she can't tolerate the fact she is single any longer and makes up a boyfriend. The reason she's single is because the love of her life Nathu has died. Her best fried Harry (who she secretly loves) finally convinces her that Nathu has become a memory and that she's changed him in her memories. With this she pursues her own happiness.

Cheesy on places but a lovely storyline. It has laugh out loud moments, predictable elements and good well-meaning characters. (
