It is not the typical manga you may read. There is very little in the way of plot or story. There is good art but this is a book about oddity. It's about embracing oddity. If you can do that you can enjoy this book. ( ) Ugh. What a horrible, no good, confusing, visually appalling, poorly told adaptation of what is considered an anime classic. I could have just rewatched the series! But no! I'm honestly debating if I should put myself through book 2, even though that would finish the series. I wonder if the light novel is better? I saw the Anime of FLCL years ago - and thought it was crazy. The Manga version is no different. It follows the Anime closely - but I found the book to do a better job at explaining certain aspects of the story, while making other parts more confusing. FLCL doesn't have a straight plot - line, and nothing is ever explained clearly. At times, this deliberate fuzziness is refreshing, other times, you want to scream in frustration. The volume is not as good as the anime. The style is drawn the same, but in the TV show, it is in color with movement, in the Graphic novel, the black and white drawings are hard to follow. So... I would suggest reading this if you are a fan of the TV show (it came first). If you have not seen the TV show and find the book incomprehensible (but is intriguing), the FLCL Anime might be something you should look into. Describing Fooly Cooly (aka Furi Kuri aka FLCL) in one sentence is only possible in one way: what the hell is going on!?! Beautifully stylistic art that changes from minimalistic to a crazy dirty gritty style is about the only thing to recommend if you are looking for anything to comprehend. Almost nothing that happens in the story makes sense or is explained... and I was hoping that the Manga would be easier to understand than the equally enigmatic Anime. There are a few non sequiturs that are funny, but most of the time they just go over your head... as will most of the references to other anime/manga unless a reader is well versed in the classics. Art that is pretty and conveys an interesting mood does not redeem a story that has no coherence. geen besprekingen | voeg een bespreking toe
